{friday cocktail: classic absinthe}

Even though it has been legal in the United States for a while now, we still wanted to hunt down some unique absinthe from France to bring home with us.  One of our friends recommended this tiny little absinthe shop in the Marais neighborhood of Paris and we spent an afternoon there last week.  The tiny shop is about as big as my closet and filled with more than 30 different types of absinthe from all around Europe.  The extremely knowledgeable shopkeeper helped us pick out a few interesting bottles to bring home in addition to telling us the correct way to enjoy it.  He also informed us that the lighting of the sugar is a hollywood gimmick which was a complete surprise to me!  We promptly opened one of the mini bottles we purchased at the boutique to enjoy before leaving France, but back home one of my favorites is Kubler.

{friday cocktail: the rattlesnake}

This past Christmas while we were in Southern California, my family up in wine country was whipping up batches of this cocktail and texting me snapshots to induce jealousy.  My wonderful sister-in-law was kind enough to send me the recipe and now I'm sharing it with you!  Besides the fact that this cocktail tastes delicious, I think my favorite part is the intricate bitters garnish that sits atop the foamy top layer created by the egg whites.  It reminds me of the milk art that baristas create in frothy milk except better because this is a cocktail not coffee....

{friday cocktail: the blackthorne}

 In honor of St. Patrick's Day tomorrow, I knew we had to try out a cocktail with Irish Whiskey.  Last year we celebrated St Patrick's with a dinner party and a very appropriate cocktail, Irish Coffee.  This year's cocktail is twist on a very classic cocktail out of the The Savoy Cocktail Book from the 1930s, The Blackthorn.  You can see the other variations of the cocktail and some history behind it here

Cheers!
