Recently I needed to buy a frame for a gift and I conveniently found it at Aaron Brothers during their 5 cent sale. Which meant I was able to pick up a 24 inch square box canvas along with the frame I needed for free! I was originally thinking I might mount some photos on it using this previous post as inspiration. Instead I was inspired by some Kate Spade dinnerware - see above. I picked up some metallic gold cardstock and glitter paper then used my 2-inch circle punch to create the confetti. I placed it haphazardly around the white canvas and secured it with spray adhesive.
This entire project took me maybe 15 minutes! It would look even better if I had taken the time to paint the canvas since our walls are white and a little color would have made it pop more. This would make a great gift for someone's birthday; I would love to see it as multicolored confetti on an even bigger canvas!
cute idea!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this idea!! I am beyond obsessed with the kate spade gold polka-dot dishes (crossing my fingers they are still available when it comes time to register for my wedding!). I have to do this project before summer is over - thanks :)
ReplyDeleteStephanie- you have to send me pictures if you do it!! <3

This is such a cute idea! I think it would look amazing supersized, on a white wall :-)
ReplyDeleteOmg- I have been looking for a budget diy modern art for a large canvas for my dinning room.. this is totally it!!! I think I am going to do a huge multi colored confetti this weekend!!!
ReplyDeleteDid you spray the canvas and then stick the dots on, or did you stick the dots in position and spray over them?

DeleteHi Nicole,
ReplyDeleteI laid out newspaper and put all the "dots" upside down and sprayed them with the spray adhesive. Then placed them randomly around the canvas. The spray adhesive wont dry immediately but if you want to take your time placing them then I would spray 4 or 5 at a time and then place.
Hope that helps!

I wish I would have read this yesterday lol...I sprayed the entire canvas :( and my dots are lifting because I didn't want to over load the canvas with glue...perhaps I will add some glitter dust for texture and reglue my dots.
DeleteThank you for the inspiring art :)
Perfect.. thanks so much!! looking forward to doing it this weekend.
ReplyDeleteDoing this right now! Painting the canvases a robins egg blue (to match the opposite wall) and using gold dots!
ReplyDeleteAshley! Please send me pictures of the finished product I would LOVE to see them!

I am new to crafting so please bare with me. In the pictures above (#2 & #3) there appears to be another circle under the glitter/gold cardstock, does it come like that or are we supposed to add another layer of cardstock?
ReplyDeleteI love that! I'm crazy for it! I want to try that!

I don't normally embark on DIY projects, but this is easy enough that I think I can do it myself. I can't wait! Love the design ... thanks to Pinterest for leading me your way!
ReplyDeleteHello! I saw your idea on Pinterest and thought I would give it a try. I made one on a 24" X 24" piece of canvas...with lots more circles. I am actually going to auction it off at the 2012 JDRF Charity Event this year. I thought it would might just raise money to find a cure for kids with diabetes. Thank you for your creative inspiration. This was so easy and fun to make. Check it out: http://pinterest.com/pin/256423772503415375/
